This workshop aims to demystify the rapidly evolving area of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tools & provides a practical insight into how these tools can be integrated into the research process. There has been an explosion of GenAI tools since 2022, many of which are specifically tailored to researchers, and this technological leap has provided both exciting new opportunities and challenges in the world of research.
The session begins with an introduction to GenAI and emphasises the ethical considerations, limitations and responsibilities associated with using these tools, before moving on to describe a variety of tools and how they can be used for research. Participants will be shown how they can harness the power of these tools to support their own projects, including how to find and compare key references, draft document outlines, explore novel ideas, suggest methodologies, plan projects, analyse and visualise data, writing assistance and more. We are only just starting to discover how GenAI can support researchers and it is just the tip of the iceberg: this technology has the potential to make the research process more efficient, productive and creative in the coming years. This session aims to equip researchers with the knowledge and skills to effectively integrate these tools into their workflow and inspire them to explore how GenAI can support them throughout their research journey.
After this workshop participants will have:
an understanding of what GenAI tools are & their various capabilities;
been introduced to a range of GenAI tools & how to integrate them into the research process;
discussed the ethical considerations & limitations of using these tools in research
