Peer Led Learning: Your Career Development Starts During Your PhD

Workshop overview

In this session, Kate Marks, DTA Future Societies alumna from Leeds Beckett University will share her experience of identifying and making the most of skills development opportunities during her PhD. These opportunities helped her secure a postdoctoral fellowship at Durham University towards the end of her PhD. Kate was Associate Lecturer in Physical Education and got involved in research projects with a wide range of external stakeholder organisations alongside her PhD. Kate will share how teaching and research work helped her develop her skills and benefitted her when applying for her next role. She will also share some of her initial experiences of working as a postdoctoral researcher.

The DTA Peer-led Learning Scheme aims to provide PGRs with a platform to share their knowledge and experiences with their peers and support each other during their doctoral journey. These sessions are interactive allowing participants to ask questions and take part in the discussion freely. Every session is structured around a topic relevant to the PhD journey.
