Managing Expectations in Research Supervision

Workshop overview

Supervisors play a crucial role in a PhD student's research journey and can significantly impact the quality and successful completion of the PhD and the researcher's general well-being. Supervisors and research students often have differing expectations of supervision, which can cause challenges for both parties. It is essential to clarify and set expectations in research supervision as early as possible during the PhD.  In this session, we have invited DTA supervisors and alumni to share their experiences of research supervision and provide tips and guidance to the current researchers.

This session is part of a recently introduced initiative, the DTA Community of Practice, which aims to bring together DTA alumni, supervisors, Training Group members, and other professionals from the DTA network to contribute to the training programme and share their knowledge and expertise with DTA PGRs.
